And he rightly suggests necessary limits on a culture of free speech, including prohibitions on harassment and targeting based on ethnic or religious identity. We can build our bastions of free speech on the foundational layers of moral clarity and intellectual integrity. To the Editor:Re “What Is Happening on College Campuses Is Not Free Speech,” by Gabriel Diamond, Talia Dror and Jillian Lederman (Opinion guest essay, Nov. 11):Protecting free speech on campus requires bravery and intellectual honesty, not partisan definitions. As Jewish students, we share in the real fear surrounding the rise of violent threats against our communities. Upholding free speech requires empathy and consistency, and we must understand that intimidation and fear on campuses are real, and they are not felt only or even primarily by Jewish students.

Such forecasts have prompted a sell-off in a wide range of companies from makers of bariatric surgery devices to companies whose products address the health issues created by excess weight, from diabetes to sleep apnea. "The market is in a shoot-first, ask-questions-later mood when it comes to weight-loss drugs," said Nicholas Anderson, manager of the Thornburg International Growth Fund, which holds shares of Novo Nordisk. By contrast, the iShares U.S. Medical Devices exchange-traded fund has lost more than 22% in the last three months. Injectable weight-loss drugs, known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, are considered highly effective but are also expensive, costing more than $1,300 per month. "Overall, we'll see an increased interest in bariatric surgery, but that will get delayed in the short term."

New anti-obesity drugs have the potential to transform public health, while obliterating demand for products and services from the medical, food and fitness industries. Drugs developed by Novo Nordisk (NOVOb.CO) and Eli Lilly (LLY.N) appear to be the first truly effective diet treatments. In one clinical trial, patients taking Eli Lilly’s soon-to-be-launched weight-loss drug lost about 50 pounds (23 kg). Only about a third of those who started taking the drugs for obesity were still doing so a year later, according to one analysis. Yet even as Novo, Lilly and others see their addressable markets expand, some companies will see theirs shrink.

In fact, some 63% of U.S. adults sleep less than the recommended seven to nine hours a night, according to the National Sleep Foundation's Sleep Health Index. There are a myriad of products in the sleep arena — from mattresses and sleep supplements to sleep apnea devices and tech wearables that track sleep. Treating sleep conditions Health conditions can also impact the ability to get a good night's rest, like insomnia and sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea causes breathing to be interrupted during sleep. About half of those surveyed in its obstructive sleep apnea patient survey in July said they had never heard of Inspire.

The National Association of Realtors said earlier this month that its housing affordability index fell during the second quarter to its lowest level on record. Not coincidentally, the first quarter of 2021 turned out to the be peak in housing affordability. The consequence has been the massive drop in housing affordability to new lows. But still, housing affordability is as low as it's been since at least 1986. Given its importance to the wider economy, a robust housing market will likely be a precondition to achieving a relatively seamless transition to long-term economic expansion.

Wall Street is desperate for the Federal Reserve to stop raising rates and begin easing, and Wall Street couldn't be more wrong. I liken this error to delivering cardiac drugs to the patient suffering from a dangerously high heart rate. I've been privileged to know many members of the Federal Reserve over the years. The Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee will not cut rates because they want to help the S&P 500 climb to new highs. Some on Wall Street are calling for three rate cuts before year-end.
Possible outcomes for under-pressure regional banks could see a stronger rival take over a weaker, or cash infusions from investors such as private equity, the industry sources said. Reuters GraphicsUNDER PRESSUREInvestors voted with their feet on Monday, putting bank stocks under pressure around the world. So investors think it’s a relative gamble staying around owning regional banks before knowing what will change in regulation," said Brian Levitt, global market strategist for Invesco. Regional bank stocks are "an incredible bargain now," billionaire investor Bill Ackman said on Twitter on Monday. "There’s value in these banks, they are not all alike," said Michael Farr, chief executive of investment advisory firm Farr, Miller & Washington who owns banks stocks including PNC and Truist.
